The Scent Profile
Kirov opens with a blast of aldehydes and cardamom, aiming for that "icy" vodka accord. It's reasonably close to Vodka on the Rocks, perhaps 90%. However, the opening has a slightly sharper, more synthetic edge. The rhubarb emerges quickly, adding a tart sweetness. The floral heart is where it deviates most from Kilian's creation; it's louder, the rose is a bit screechy, lacking the smooth refinement of the original. The base of ambroxan and sandalwood is serviceable, providing a clean, woody finish. It's good, but the drydown lacks the nuance found in Vodka on the Rocks.
Longevity & Projection
Longevity is decent. I get about 6 hours on my skin. Projection is moderate for the first hour, then it settles closer to the skin. It's noticeable, but not a room filler.
Is it Worth It?
Kirov is a solid alternative if you like the idea of Vodka on the Rocks but can't stomach the Kilian price tag. The sharper opening and slightly less refined floral heart are the tradeoffs. Is it a 1:1 clone? No. Is the original ten times better to justify the price? Absolutely not. If you want the *idea* of the fragrance on a budget, grab Kirov. If you demand absolute perfection and have the cash, stick with Kilian. But for the cost-conscious, Kirov does a respectable job.
