Our objective metric for performance per dollar.
Is it Worth It?
If you’re after the 1 Million Elixir vibe on a shoestring budget, Intense Gold does a decent job. It’s clearly not as refined, with some rough, synthetic edges that give it away. However, it's a viable alternative for casual wear. Perfect for a younger guy who likes sweet scents, and isn't ready to commit to the real deal.
Notes & Nuances
Intense Gold bursts open with a candied apple vibe, bright and immediate. Osmanthus adds a touch of apricot jamminess, clashing slightly with a synthetic rose note. It’s reminiscent of 1 Million Elixir, sure, but the opening lacks the honeyed depth of the original. The heart brings a boozy davana note forward, fighting with the sweet tonka. It's where it diverges. 1 Million Elixir has a smoother, almost rum-like quality. Here, it’s a bit rougher around the edges. The drydown is a blast of vanilla and amber. The cedarwood hides, adding a slightly woody backbone. Overall, I'd put it at about 70% similar to the original. The first few minutes are almost identical.
Wear time & Sillage
Longevity is surprisingly good. I get a solid 6-7 hours on my skin. Projection? Moderate for the first two hours, then it settles closer. Not a beast, but definitely noticeable. Be warned - over-spraying amplifies the synthetic feel. Go easy.
