How it Smells
Bade'e Al Oud Amethyst jumps out of the gate with a blast of powdery ylang-ylang, like stepping into a vintage makeup counter. The bergamot is present but subdued, acting more as a gentle lift than a zesty spark. As it settles, the heliotrope takes center stage, lending a fluffy, almond-vanilla sweetness reminiscent of marzipan. However, a distinct synthetic edge creeps in, similar to cherry-scented plastic. The rose is noticeable, but leans more towards potpourri than a fresh bloom. The drydown presents a creamy sandalwood, though the myrrh adds a balsamic depth that feels somewhat heavy-handed. It deviates notably from its inspiration, opting for bolder, somewhat cloying sweetness instead of subtle floral musk.
Longevity & Projection
On my skin, Amethyst lingers for about 6-7 hours. Projection is moderate, extending about an arm's length for the first two hours before mellowing down. I tested this during a day of running errands and found it a bit too intense for close quarters. It's better suited for cooler evenings or open-air settings.
Final Thoughts
If this scent were a character, it would be a flamboyant, older aunt who wears too much perfume to a family gathering: well-intentioned, but a little overwhelming.
