How it Smells
Peace and Love opens with a juicy black currant – a decent attempt at Soie Malaquais’ fruity start, but immediately betraying a slightly sharper, synthetic edge. The bergamot is present, adding a needed brightness, yet the overall effect is less refined. The heart aims for silk and rose, and while a floral accord is there, the silken texture is absent. Instead, a powdery rose pushes forward, a deviation from the original's smoother, more integrated floral aspect. The base attempts to mimic the cozy chestnut and cacao. Here, Peace and Love fares better, delivering a comforting sweetness, but the chestnut reads more like a generic nutty accord. Cacao is dialed back, lacking the richness of the Dries Van Noten. Overall, 90% similarity. The cheaper ingredients are noticeable, particularly in the opening and the rose accord.
The Performance Stats
Longevity is moderate. Expect around 5-6 hours on skin. Projection is moderate for the first hour, then quickly settles closer to the skin. A second application may be needed in the late afternoon. If you enjoy the general idea of fruity rose over a sweet, nutty base and don't want to spend a fortune, this is a solid choice. The synthetic edges are present but not overpowering. However, Peace and Love delivers a passable impression for everyday wear. Recommended for those on a budget seeking a similar fragrance profile, but be aware of the compromise in quality.
