Final Thoughts
If Opera Noir were a character in a movie, it would be the stylish but slightly insecure supporting actress in a rom-com, trying a little too hard to emulate the effortlessly cool main character.
Olfactory Experience
Opera Noir opens with a candied pear note, similar to those gummy rings from childhood, alongside a dusting of pink pepper that tickles rather than ignites. The orange blossom emerges quickly, a touch screechy and synthetic compared to the natural brightness of the genuine article, leaning more toward orange-scented cleaning product than blooming orchard. The heart introduces a burnt sugar accord, the coffee more a whisper than a bold roast. The bitter almond is muted, adding a powdery texture rather than a distinct nutty depth. The drydown softens considerably, the vanilla offering a comforting sweetness, but the patchouli lacks earthiness, and the cedar presents as pencil shavings, lacking warmth. It mimics the general vibe of its inspiration, but deviates in key aspects, with a thinner, more artificial character.
Longevity & Projection
Opera Noir provides a decent 6 hours of noticeable wear. It projects within an arm's length for the first 2 hours, then settles closer to the skin. I wore it during an evening out with friends, and while I got a few compliments, it didn't leave a lasting impression.
