Olfactory Experience

December Vanilla aims for Kayali's Vanilla Royale Sugared Patchouli, and gets respectably close. The opening is a boozy vanilla with a floral whisper; the rum note is there, though less refined than the original. A synthetic edge surfaces quickly, but it isn't overwhelming. The heart brings vanilla and a creamy, almost burnt sugar aroma, reminiscent of crème brûlée. The "spicy notes" are subdued. The base is where it deviates most. The patchouli is present, but the oud is dialed WAY down, losing some of the original's depth. Overall, I'd say it captures around 87% of Vanilla Royale's DNA, but lacks the complexity and smoothness.

Wear time & Sillage

Longevity is surprisingly decent. I get a solid 6-7 hours on skin, becoming a skin scent after about 3. Projection is moderate for the first hour, then settles closer to the body. Not a beast mode fragrance, but definitely noticeable.

Bottom Line

If you're on a tight budget and crave the Vanilla Royale vibe, December Vanilla is a worthwhile alternative. The synthetic aspects are noticeable, but not deal-breakers. It's a good option for casual wear or layering. But if you're happy with "pretty good" and saving a bundle, buy this.
