Italian Activity opens with a sharply rendered juniper note, amplified by an assertive ginger. The ginger presents as more of a candied ginger – think ginger chews left out in the sun – rather than fresh rhizome. This deviates from the original’s brighter, almost effervescent opening. The heart introduces lavender, but it's a muted, almost soapy rendition, lacking the herbaceous character of the reference. This segues into the base where the promised vanilla and tonka bean struggle to coalesce. Instead, a somewhat plasticky accord emerges, hinting at vanilla extract diluted in isopropyl alcohol. The tonka is present, but masked by a slight burnt sugar quality that detracts from the composition. The overall effect is a flattened, linear experience.

The Verdict

This scent is best suited for casual daytime wear, specifically situations where close proximity isn't a major factor. Think running errands or grabbing a coffee. Its simplified structure doesn't lend itself to formal occasions or scenarios where nuance is desired.

How Long Does it Last?

Longevity is moderate, clocking in at around five hours on skin. Projection is initially strong, extending to about an arm's length for the first hour, then quickly retracts to a skin scent. I tested this in both an air-conditioned office setting and during a moderate-intensity workout. The scent held better in the controlled environment, but became cloying with sweat.
