Mystique Homme opens with a blast of pine needles and something akin to fizzy lemon cleaner, edging close to bathroom tile. The rosemary is definitely present, but lacks the natural herbaceous quality of the real thing. As it settles, the floral heart emerges, a soapy neroli with a powdery, cosmetic-like orris. There's a fleeting resemblance to expensive milled soap, but a lingering artificial sweetness keeps it from achieving true sophistication. The drydown is where it deviates most; the sandalwood becomes a generic woody accord, and a slightly acrid cedar takes over, leaving a vaguely plasticky impression.
