Ghala enters with that tell-tale saffron and jasmine duet, aiming squarely for Baccarat Rouge 540. It’s close, maybe 89% there. The initial impression is sweet, almost candied, but with a slightly sharper, more synthetic edge compared to the original's airy finesse. The heart leans heavily into amberwood, a prominent, sometimes overwhelming, note. The authentic ambergris warmth is suggested, not fully realized. Finally, the dry down introduces fir resin and cedar, creating a woodsy base, which diverges from the original's smoother, musky finish. It’s a competent interpretation, but the differences become apparent as it develops.

Performance Reality Check

Longevity is impressive. Ghala sticks around for a good 6-8 hours, projecting moderately for the first 2-3. After that, it settles into a close skin scent. It fills a small room without being obnoxious. The synthetic undertones are present, especially if you are familiar with the OG. If you enjoy that sweet, woody, slightly medicinal profile and don't want to drop a fortune, this is a decent alternative. But Ghala delivers a similar essence for daily wear. A good option if you are wanting to test the waters before investing.
