Final Thoughts
If this scent were a character in a movie, it would be a poorly dressed con artist trying to pass himself off as a sophisticated businessman.
First Impressions & Dry Down
Shalimar Oud launches with a surprisingly sharp thyme note that borders on medicinal, quickly joined by a powdery olibanum attempting to emulate sophistication. The saffron is dialed back, almost undetectable against the initial pungency. The heart unfolds into a synthetic leather accord reminiscent of a new car interior crossed with raspberry jam, rather than the supple, worn leather of a high-end Italian handbag. Jasmine struggles to peek through. The base introduces a slightly sweet suede note, battling synthetic woody elements and a plasticky amber that lacks depth and complexity. The resemblance to the Tom Ford inspiration exists but is a faded photocopy rather than a faithful reproduction. It misses the richness and nuance, opting for an intensely linear profile.
Projection Power
On my skin, Shalimar Oud lasted approximately 5-6 hours. Projection is moderate for the first hour, extending to about an arm's length, before settling closer to the skin. I tested it in both indoor and outdoor environments; it performed marginally better in cooler weather, with the sweeter notes becoming somewhat cloying in warmer temperatures.
