Our objective metric for performance per dollar.
Bottom Line
Wearing Hunter Intense is like putting on a sharply tailored suit made from slightly cheaper fabric. From a distance, it looks the part, but up close, the differences become apparent. You get the same general vibe as Sauvage – clean, assertive, and modern – but the nuance and refinement are missing. It's a decent substitute if you want a fragrance with this profile, but understand the experience has been streamlined.
The Scent Profile
Hunter Intense opens with a blast of sharp bergamot, like lemon floor cleaner a bit too concentrated. The pepper is there, but it's a harsher, almost nose-stinging quality compared to the original Sauvage. As it settles, the lavender tries to peek through, creating a slightly soapy counterpoint to the prickly Sichuan and pink pepper. The base emerges fairly quickly, dominated by ambroxan. It's a very clean, almost sterile ambroxan, lacking the warmth and depth of ambergris. There's a cedar note as well, reminiscent of a pencil shaving, and just a hint of something resinous from the labdanum. It's clearly inspired by Sauvage, but the overall effect is thinner and a little screechy, with a pronounced metallic tang.
How Long Does it Last?
On my skin, Hunter Intense lasts a good 6-7 hours. The projection is initially strong, filling a room for the first hour. It settles down to about an arm's length after that, maintaining a noticeable presence for the rest of its lifespan. I wore this to the office and found it started to fatigue my nose after about 4 hours.
