Shades Wood goes for Kilian's Rose Oud and lands pretty close. The opening blast of saffron is intense, a little rough around the edges compared to the smoother original. The rose blooms quickly, blending with a woody, slightly medicinal oud. It’s a fairly linear scent, what you smell in the first few minutes sticks around. The drydown softens into guaiac wood, giving it a smoky, subtly sweet finish. It's about 80-92% similar, the main difference being that Kilian has a richer, more refined rose. Shades Wood has a slightly more synthetic, almost varnish-like edge to the oud in comparison.

Is it Worth It?

If you love Rose Oud but can't justify the Kilian price tag, Shades Wood is a solid alternative. It's a strong, assertive scent, perfect for cooler weather or evening events. Not for the faint of heart. For everyday wear, Shades Wood delivers the essence of Rose Oud . If you crave that extra 92% of refinement, then maybe consider saving up. But for most people, this is a great daily driver.

Projection Power

This stuff projects! Expect a good 3-4 hours of noticeable scent bubble. It settles closer to the skin after that, but lasts a solid 7-8 hours overall. You’ll get whiffs of it throughout the day. One or two sprays max – it can be overpowering if oversprayed.
