Scentonym Analysis
Our objective metric for performance per dollar.
Bottom Line
This fragrance is best suited for spring and summer daytime wear. It functions adequately as a casual scent, appropriate for running errands or a very informal lunch. However, its synthetic edge prevents it from achieving the sophistication required for more formal occasions.
First Impressions & Dry Down
ÉCLAT 958 VIP opens with a bracing, almost astringent citrus accord. The lemon leans heavily synthetic; picture a concentrated lemon cleaner, albeit a high-quality one, tempered by a somewhat muddied grapefruit note that lacks the original's juicy effervescence. The mint is present but understated, contributing a cool, almost medicinal camphoraceous touch rather than a vibrant herbal freshness. The heart attempts to replicate the orange blossom and jasmine blend, but falls short. It presents a soapy, slightly indolic floral character, reminiscent of cheap hand soap, lacking the nuanced depth and creamy sweetness of high-quality absolutes. The clary sage adds a welcome herbaceous counterpoint but is quickly subsumed by the base. The drydown is a relatively linear musk, with a faint vetiver providing a subtle earthy counterweight. The labdanum, unfortunately, is barely perceptible, missing the balsamic warmth and resinous complexity of its natural counterpart.
Wear time & Sillage
Longevity on my skin is approximately 4-5 hours. Projection is moderate for the first hour, extending to about an arm's length, then quickly fading to a skin scent. Tested in both air-conditioned office and outdoor summer conditions, the results were consistent.
