Our objective metric for performance per dollar.
Is it Worth It?
This fragrance is best suited for situations where a strong, slightly off-kilter projection is desired, but extreme scrutiny is unlikely. Think crowded bars, outdoor concerts, or situations where personal space is limited. It projects an image of someone trying a bit too hard to impress, suitable for a first date where a bold impression is paramount, even if it lacks subtlety. Not for formal events or intimate gatherings; its boldness would feel out of place.
Notes & Nuances
Shiyaaka for Men opens with a jarring green sharpness. The rosemary is less herbaceous and more akin to crushed, bitter leaves, fighting for dominance against a fizzy, candied pink pepper. There’s a synthetic lemon cleaner aspect from the petitgrain that clashes somewhat with the promise of refinement. The heart attempts to smooth things out with jasmine, but the orris root leans powdery rather than creamy, creating a slight disconnect. Where it truly diverges is the base. The sandalwood lacks depth, smelling more like cedar shavings than a milky wood, and the vetiver is a muted whisper instead of the grounding force it should be. The dry down has an unsettling plasticky quality.
Longevity & Projection
On my skin, Shiyaaka lasts approximately six hours, with projection initially filling a room before settling to about an arm's length for the remaining time. I tested it during a moderately warm day, and the cloying sweetness became quite noticeable after a few hours.
