First Impressions & Dry Down

Baroque Satin Oud opens with a boozy rose, reminiscent of rosewater Turkish delight, but with an undercurrent of synthetic cherry cough syrup. The violet emerges quickly, lending a powdery softness that attempts to temper the oud's intensity. However, the oud is not the barnyard variety; instead, it’s a smoothed-over, almost generic woody accord. The drydown leans heavily into a vanilla that’s cloying, like the lingering aroma after spilling vanilla extract. It diverges from its inspiration most noticeably in the base, where the amber lacks warmth, reading instead as a plasticky sheen that clings to the skin.

Longevity & Projection

The longevity is impressive, lingering for around 7-8 hours. However, the projection is assertive, easily filling a room within the first two hours, then settling to a more intimate, one-arm-length bubble. I tested it in a crowded concert setting; it cut through the noise, but felt slightly out of place.
