First Impressions & Dry Down

Brulant Oud opens with a blast of incense, immediately reminiscent of Gold Man. However, the rose hip and lily-of-the-valley, while present, feel somewhat muted compared to the original's brighter opening. The heart reveals a jasmine and orris root accord. I detect myrrh, but it’s less pronounced. It's in the base where the divergence is most apparent. Brulant Oud presents a civet note, but it lacks the complex, animalic depth of the Amouage. The oakmoss is there, adding a touch of green bitterness. Overall, it captures about 85% of Gold Man’s DNA. There is a slight synthetic edge in the opening.

Longevity & Projection

Longevity is moderate. I get around 6-7 hours on skin, with projection strongest for the first two hours, radiating within arm’s length. After that, it settles closer to the skin. It’s not a powerhouse, but adequate . The synthetic quality prevents it from being a true one-to-one match. If you appreciate the incense and floral structure of Gold Man but are hesitant to spend the premium, this is a worthwhile consideration. The original boasts greater complexity and refinement, making it a worthwhile investment if budget isn't a concern. However, for everyday wear, Brulant Oud hits the mark . This is ideal for those who want a taste of Amouage without the hefty price tag.
