To Buy or Not to Buy?
Saffron by Saffron is a worthwhile alternative to Byredo's Black Saffron. It captures the essence without the exorbitant cost. It has a slight synthetic edge, particularly in the leather accord, but it’s not a deal breaker. If you crave Black Saffron but can't justify the price tag, this is a solid compromise. This is a great daily driver. Recommended for anyone seeking an affordable, saffron-forward fragrance.
First Impressions & Dry Down
Saffron By Saffron nails the core concept of Black Saffron. You get that initial blast of bright, almost medicinal saffron, softened by a juicy grapefruit. The juniper is there, a subtle piney undertone. It's about 90% similar to the Byredo in the opening. The heart shifts into a slightly more synthetic leather note here, less refined than the original's smooth suede. Violet peeks through, adding a powdery sweetness. The drydown brings a pleasant cashmeran and a touch of raspberry. It’s sweet, but grounded. It misses the vetiver's earthiness from the original.
Performance Reality Check
The longevity is decent . Expect around 5-6 hours on skin, projecting moderately for the first hour. It becomes a skin scent after about 2 hours. Not beast mode, but respectable. Respraying won’t break the bank, considering the price.
