First Impressions & Dry Down
Kismet for Men throws a sparkling bergamot and acrid black pepper open, lacking the smooth, almost creamy entry of its inspiration. The heart pushes lily-of-the-valley forward in a way that veers soapy, eclipsing any grounded earthiness from the patchouli. This difference is marked, as the lily dominates and the patchouli feels like an afterthought. The drydown does attempt to emulate the vanilla ambergris base but lands closer to a powdered sugar incense, creating a spiced baby powder effect, rather than the deep resinous warmth expected. It has a slightly synthetic acetone edge in the base that detracts from any perceived luxury.
Projection Power
Longevity sits around 5-6 hours on my skin, diminishing to a skin scent by hour 4. The projection is moderate, extending about an arm’s length for the first hour, then retreating inward. Tested in an office environment, it garnered no unsolicited compliments or complaints. It performs adequately, not exceptionally.
Conclusion
This fragrance is best suited for cooler evening wear during the autumn or early spring. Its saccharine base makes it a risky choice for warmer weather. The soapy heart pushes it toward casual settings; it would be out of place at a formal black-tie event.
