Olfactory Experience
Monocline 02 mimics the airy, skin-like vibe of Molecule 02 closely, probably around 91% of the way there. The opening is a wave of clean Ambroxan, maybe a touch harsher, more overtly synthetic than the original's subtle shimmer. This difference fades quickly though. The heart remains focused on that single-note Ambroxan effect. It is clean, woody, and slightly salty. The drydown introduces a muted amber and musk accord, adding a soft, warm roundness that is slightly amped up compared to Escentric Molecules' drier, more minimalist approach.
To Buy or Not to Buy?
Monocline 02 is for the minimalist. The person who wants to smell 'good' without smelling of a particular perfume. If you enjoy the clean, understated vibe of Molecule 02, and want to experience it this is a great option. It captures the core essence well, with just a few noticeable differences in initial sharpness and drydown warmth. This will scratch that itch perfectly well.
Performance Reality Check
Expect moderate performance. The initial projection lasts for about an hour at arm's length, then settles into a skin scent for another 4-5 hours. It's noticeable, creates a subtle aura, but won't fill a room. Reapplication is needed if you want a stronger presence throughout the day.
