How it Smells

The opening of The Tux by Maison Alhambra presents a sparkling bergamot, though it carries a slightly acrid edge, like lemon furniture polish. The black pepper is present but feels muted, more of a fine dust than freshly cracked spice. As it settles, a surprisingly green lily-of-the-valley emerges, battling with a damp, earthy patchouli. This is where it diverges most significantly from its inspiration; the patchouli is stark, almost medicinal, reminiscent of a cleaning product used in a doctor's office. The drydown brings a creamy vanilla, thankfully rescuing the composition from total ruin, and a whisper of incense, but the ambergris leans towards a synthetic, plasticky amber, losing the oceanic depth often associated with the note.

How Long Does it Last?

Longevity clocks in around 6 hours. Projection is initially strong, easily filling a room for the first hour, but quickly retreats to within arm's length. I tested this in a professional setting – a gallery opening – and it performed adequately, though I found myself wishing for a smoother, more polished presentation.

The Verdict

If The Tux were a character, it would be the ambitious but slightly awkward intern, eager to impress but still wearing hand-me-down shoes. They're trying to fit in, but the seams are showing.
