How it Smells
Oil Perfumery's "Carnal Flower Impression" aims for Frederic Malle’s iconic tuberose. The opening delivers a crisp bergamot and a noticeable eucalyptus note, lending an initial camphoraceous coolness that's similar to the original, though slightly sharper and less rounded. The melon isn't overtly fruity but adds a watery sweetness. The heart unfolds with tuberose front and center. It's a solid rendering, but lacks the creamy, almost buttery depth of the Malle. The ylang-ylang and jasmine are present, yet play supporting roles. The drydown brings forth a coconut accord. This is where the divergence from the original becomes most apparent. The Malle leans into a cleaner, almost soapy musk, whereas this clone is more tropical and overtly sweet, thanks to a pronounced orange blossom note layered atop a synthetic musk. Overall, I'd estimate this clone captures approximately 90% of the original's DNA.
How Long Does it Last?
Longevity is moderate. I observed around 5-6 hours on skin. Projection is initially strong for about an hour, creating a noticeable scent bubble. Then it settles closer to the skin. You will get wafts throughout the day, but it's not an overwhelming perfume.
To Buy or Not to Buy?
it's a decent approximation. The synthetic edges are noticeable, particularly in the base, but not deal-breakers. If you crave the Carnal Flower experience on a budget, this is a worthwhile option. But for casual wear, this clone scratches the itch adequately. Recommended for those who appreciate tuberose but don't want to commit to the high price point of the original.
