The Verdict
On Time is a competent, if not perfect, interpretation of a popular scent. It's a solid choice for those curious about the Baccarat Rouge experience without the hefty price tag. The synthetic edges are noticeable upon close inspection, but the overall effect is pleasing. If you're searching for a dead ringer, this isn’t it. The original IS better, smoother, and has more dimension. Is it 10x better? Debatable.
First Impressions & Dry Down
On Time by Rue Broca aims squarely for the Baccarat Rouge 540 profile. The opening hits with a pronounced saffron and jasmine duo. It's immediately apparent this is a near facsimile, capturing maybe 88% of the original's DNA. The jasmine here leans slightly more indolic, and the saffron lacks the airy, almost metallic quality of the MFK. The heart shifts to the now-familiar amberwood accord. While present, it's rougher. The ambergris is an impression, not the real deal, creating a slightly scratchy feel on the skin. Fir resin and cedar in the base attempt to ground the sweetness, but the musk is a dominant player, lingering alongside a slight medicinal edge, a common characteristic in cheaper clones.
Projection Power
Longevity is surprisingly robust. I clocked around 7 hours on skin, with moderate projection for the first 2. It projects adequately, creating a noticeable scent bubble. However, the dry down lacks the nuanced refinement of Baccarat Rouge, becoming slightly cloying after prolonged wear.
