How it Smells
Bateig Azul kicks off with a blast of juicy orange and somewhat astringent lemon. It's initially quite similar to Pacific Chill's citrusy opening, but the citron note here is a bit sharper, almost akin to grapefruit pith. The heart develops quickly, revealing a peculiar mix of sweet apricot and green basil. I get a definite vegetal note from the carrot seed; it's reminiscent of dill pickles but thankfully subdued. The drydown is where it diverges most noticeably. The date note adds a cloying sweetness that Pacific Chill avoids, clashing with the almost plasticky ambrette. The fig is MIA on my skin.
Bottom Line
Bateig Azul is a pleasant warm weather scent best suited for casual daytime wear. Think running errands, brunch with friends, or a quick trip to the park. It's not something I'd wear to a formal event or in a professional setting. The synthetic edge in the base makes it a better choice for carefree activities where you don't want to worry about smelling overly sophisticated.
The Performance Stats
I get about 5-6 hours of longevity, with moderate projection for the first hour, extending to about an arm's length. After that, it sits closer to the skin. I tested it during a mild spring day running errands. It held up well during a trip to the grocery store, but faded considerably during an outdoor walk.
