Olfactory Experience
Rare Carbon opens with a blast of cardamom, but it leans closer to a spicy, almost medicinal camphor than the bright, citrusy spice I prefer. The leather emerges quickly, a somewhat harsh, almost vinyl note – picture the inside of a new car, but with an undercurrent of rubber tires. Where the original offers a refined suede, this provides something rougher around the edges. The jasmine is nearly undetectable, unfortunately. The drydown attempts to settle into amber and moss, but it carries a persistent plasticky veneer. While it shares some DNA with its inspiration, it lacks the sophisticated smoothness.
Longevity & Projection
I get about six hours of noticeable wear, with projection reaching about an arm's length for the first two. It quickly becomes a skin scent after that. I wore it to a casual dinner and found myself wanting something less...assertive. I also wore it to a mechanic shop - it fit in better there, honestly.
Final Thoughts
Rare Carbon is for someone who favors a rugged, industrial aesthetic. Think construction worker, motorcycle enthusiast, or maybe a leatherworker who appreciates a scent that mirrors their craft. If you prefer refinement and sophistication, this might not be your best pick. It's a utilitarian fragrance, built for function over pure pleasure.
