Notes & Nuances
Turathi Brown opens with a blast of sharp bergamot quickly overtaken by a peculiar, almost metallic black pepper note. It's less about fresh spice and more about the abrasive tang of iron filings. The heart attempts to introduce lily-of-the-valley, but it’s a ghostly, synthetic whisper. The patchouli is present, though subdued, lacking the earthy depth of the inspiration and replaced with a musty undertone. The base reveals a cloying vanilla, reminiscent of artificial sweetener, mixing with a dull, ambergris accord and a hint of smoky incense that smells singed, not smooth. The drydown loses some of the initial harshness but also any charm, descending into a monotonous, sugary powder. This deviates significantly; the original boasts greater complexity and naturalness.
The Verdict
If Turathi Brown were a character, it would be a poorly-written extra in a period drama – dressed in a vaguely accurate costume, standing in the background, easily forgotten.
How Long Does it Last?
On my skin, Turathi Brown lasts approximately 5-6 hours. Projection is moderate for the first hour, reaching about an arm's length, but quickly settles into a skin scent. I tested this during a day of errands and found it faded considerably by the afternoon. It performed acceptably in a cool office setting, but I doubt it would hold up in warmer weather.
