First Impressions & Dry Down
Gentleman's Club opens with a spicy cardamom jolt, immediately tempered by the herbaceous sage. It's a reasonably close approximation of Gentleman Society's opening, perhaps lacking some of the original's bright, almost citrusy, nuance. The heart introduces a floral sweetness from the Narcissus, blended with the earthy and grassy Haitian vetiver and the slightly smoky Madagascar vetiver. Here, the clone diverges most noticeably. The original has a creamier, smoother blend, while this presents a slightly more angular, almost synthetic edge, particularly in the floral component. The base is a comforting blend of vanilla, the woody, slightly sweet Palo Santo, and cedar. The drydown is where this clone shines, closely mirroring the warmth and sophistication of the original's base accord. I'd say it achieves about 90% accuracy overall.
Projection Power
Longevity is moderate. I get about 5-6 hours on skin with noticeable projection for the first hour, settling closer to the skin thereafter. The original outperforms it in both areas.
The Verdict
Gentleman's Club is a respectable clone. While it doesn't perfectly capture the nuances of Gentleman Society, particularly in the heart, the overall impression is pleasing. it's a solid value. If you enjoy the Gentleman Society DNA but find the price prohibitive, this is a worthy alternative. If you're seeking hyper-realism, then no. If you appreciate a good homage, this is a smart choice.
