The Scent Profile
Pinnace opens with a startlingly sharp citrus accord – not the mellow glow of sun-ripened fruit, but a pulpy, almost acrid blend of lemon rind and unripe orange. The heart attempts a softer landing with a suggestion of apricot, though it reads closer to preserved peach in heavy syrup. Basil offers a fleeting herbal counterpoint, struggling against the encroaching sweetness. Carrot seed lends an earthy whisper, just before the base crashes in like an overripe fruit basket. The dates and fig are dense, syrupy, and cloying, amplified by an artificial ambrette that veers uncomfortably close to a plasticky doll head aroma. It departs substantially from its inspiration, sacrificing sophisticated nuance for amplified sugary density.
Wear time & Sillage
Longevity is surprisingly robust, clinging to skin for upwards of six hours. Initial projection is assertive, easily extending beyond arm's length for the first hour before settling into a more intimate bubble. I wore it during a day of errands in mild weather and found it became increasingly oppressive as the day wore on.
Bottom Line
This fragrance seems best suited for late summer evenings, but only if you're aiming for an aggressively sweet and somewhat synthetic aura. It's a fragrance for someone who wants to make a statement, albeit one that might not be entirely polished or refined. More suitable for a beachside cocktail bar at dusk than a sophisticated gallery opening.
