Final Thoughts
This fragrance is best suited for cooler weather, specifically late fall or early winter, where its richness might feel more appropriate. Evening wear would be preferable, although I'd avoid close quarters or overly formal occasions. It works best in a setting where you want to project a bold, sugary-sweet image.
First Impressions & Dry Down
Pure Instinct opens with a sticky-sweet apricot jam note, combined with a dark, almost fermented plum. The initial blast is intense, and frankly, a little cloying; it lacks the luminosity of a high-end white floral. The heart pushes through rather quickly, dominated by a creamy tuberose that leans towards an artificial bubblegum sweetness, less gardenia than I would like. Turkish rose is present, but muted, hiding behind the tuberose. The base attempts to ground the saccharine sweetness with patchouli, but it's a thin, somewhat scratchy patchouli, alongside a vanilla that smells like vanilla-scented playdough and a generic orchid accord. Compared to what it emulates, the differences are apparent: this version has a far denser, heavier opening and a far less sophisticated dry down.
How Long Does it Last?
Longevity is moderate, clocking in at around 5 hours on my skin. Projection is initially strong, filling a room for the first hour, then quickly receding to within a single arm's length. I wore it during a casual coffee date, and it felt overly sweet and pervasive in that setting.
