Tragedy by Fragrance World throws a boozy punch in the opening, but less cognac, more…cherry cough syrup. The medicinal edge fades quickly, thankfully, yielding to a creamy heart attempting to mimic shaving soap. It's vaguely successful, but with a synthetic sharpness, like a lemon-scented cleaning wipe. The drydown is where things truly diverge from the inspiration. Instead of a smooth tonka and amber embrace, it’s a murky base of generic woody notes, fighting against a prominent, plasticky tonka bean. Compared to what I understand of the original, this feels like a rushed, simplified imitation, lacking the nuance and depth.

This scent suits someone who wants the idea of a sophisticated, boozy-barbershop fragrance, without the actual complexity or investment. Picture a young professional, perhaps a recent graduate still furnishing their apartment with IKEA, who prioritizes quantity over quality in their fragrance wardrobe. They want to smell presentable without emptying their account.

Longevity & Projection

Longevity is moderate, clocking in at around 5-6 hours. Projection starts strong, reaching about an arm's length for the first hour, then quickly settles into a skin scent. I wore this to a casual office setting and a rainy afternoon walk; it performed adequately in both, though the artificial shaving cream note became cloying in the humidity.
