Olfactory Experience
Enigma Quatre is, at its core, a rose bomb. French Avenue clearly aimed for Love by Chopard, and they landed somewhere in the vicinity. The opening is a blast of various rose interpretations – jammy, powdery, slightly green. It’s not unpleasant, but there's a noticeable synthetic edge in the first few minutes. This lacks the refined sweetness present in Love; instead, the honey note is dialed up, creating a slightly cloying effect. As it dries down, the patchouli emerges, offering a grounding element, but the rose remains dominant. It’s about 85% close to the original, missing some of the sparkling clarity.
Final Thoughts
If you're a die-hard rose lover on a tight budget, Enigma Quatre is a viable option. Is it a perfect dupe of Love by Chopard? No. Does it scratch that rose itch ? Absolutely. The synthetic aspects are there, but they become less noticeable after the opening. If you can find it for under $20, it’s a worthy blind buy.
Performance Reality Check
Longevity is surprisingly decent . I get around 5-6 hours on my skin, with moderate projection for the first hour or so. After that, it settles closer to the skin. Don’t expect beast mode performance. It projects noticeably less than the original Love, which lasts significantly longer.
