How it Smells

Effect opens with a blast of spiced rum – cinnamon dominates, almost aggressively at first, like a boozy Christmas candle. It's reminiscent of Side Effect, capturing about 90% of its DNA. The tobacco emerges quicker here, lacking the smoother, honeyed refinement of the original. There's a synthetic edge, particularly in the initial spray. This isn't unpleasant, but noticeable. The saffron adds a touch of dry earthiness. The vanilla and sandalwood base is where it diverges most. Effect's vanilla is louder, sweeter, less nuanced than Initio's. It leans into a gourmand territory the original subtly avoids.

Longevity & Projection

Longevity is surprisingly good. I get a solid 6-7 hours on skin, projecting moderately for the first 2 hours before settling closer. On clothing, it lingers even longer. It outperforms its price point.

Bottom Line

Effect isn't a perfect replica. However, it delivers a respectable interpretation of Side Effect. If you crave that boozy, spicy tobacco vibe but balk at the Initio price tag, this is a worthy contender. Buy it if you like to layer scents. It would be an excellent scent base to build off of. It’s for the casual fragrance fan, someone who wants to explore the profile without breaking the bank. But the refinements are noticeable.
