First Impressions & Dry Down
Le Petit Lullaby opens with a burst of candied grapefruit, more akin to a sticky marmalade than fresh fruit. A whisper of pink pepper attempts to cut through the sweetness, but ultimately fails, adding only a fleeting tickle. The heart introduces a smoldering incense note, reminiscent of extinguished birthday candles; unfortunately the tobacco is missing in action. The saffron peeks through as a medicinal tang, like antiseptic gauze. The drydown is where this diverges from its inspiration. The oud is present, but neutered; rather than a complex, woody depth, it presents as a synthetic, sharp amber accord. The leather emerges as a vinyl car seat left baking in the summer sun, lending a slightly plasticky, uncomfortable finish.
The Verdict
This fragrance is best suited for cool autumn evenings, perhaps at an outdoor bonfire where the synthetic edge might be softened by the crisp air. It projects a sense of playful confidence initially, but that confidence fades as the drydown exposes a less refined character. Wear this when you want to feel like the life of the party, but are comfortable fading into the background later in the evening. Not suitable for close encounters.
Performance Reality Check
Longevity is moderate, clinging to the skin for approximately 5 hours. Projection is initially a forceful one arm length, quickly settling into a more intimate skin scent after the first hour. I tested this in a heated office environment, and the sweetness became cloying, even headache-inducing.
