First Impressions & Dry Down
Perpetual Oud throws a wall of powdery rose and something akin to grape bubblegum on first spray. The oud is definitely present, but it's smoothed over with a thick vanilla blanket. It's less "barnyard" and more "wood shavings in a confectioner's shop." The violet attempts to add a delicate touch, but ultimately gets lost in the amber overload. It's aiming for opulent, but lands closer to cloying. The dry down lacks complexity, settling into a simple, sweet, and slightly synthetic vanilla. The original has a sharper rose and a more medicinal oud, here the differences are quite stark.
To Buy or Not to Buy?
This is a date night fragrance for someone who enjoys intensely sweet and powdery scents. It might also work well for evening events where you want to make a statement, but go light on the trigger. I wouldn't recommend it for office wear or casual daytime activities. The sweetness could become tiring in close quarters.
Longevity & Projection
I clocked about 6 hours of noticeable wear with Perpetual Oud. For the first hour, it projects strongly, easily filling a room. After that, it settles closer to the skin, lingering as a sweet, powdery scent. I wore it to a movie, and it was borderline overwhelming in the enclosed space. Outdoors, it performed respectably in mild weather.
