Surfing Mullaghmore Head opens with a bracing grapefruit and marine accord. The mandarin adds a touch of sweetness, trying to mimic the juicy freshness of Invictus Aqua 2016. There is a slight synthetic harshness to the opening, a sharper, less rounded citrus. The heart delivers bay leaf and violet leaf, but the hedione feels dialed back significantly. The ambroxan in the base is cranked up to compensate, resulting in a more aggressively "aquatic" feel than the original. The guaiac wood is present, adding a smoky dryness, but struggles to cut through the potent marine accord. I'd estimate it captures about 82% of Invictus Aqua's DNA, but sacrifices some of the original's nuanced blending for cheaper, louder materials.

How Long Does it Last?

Longevity is surprisingly decent, clocking in around 5-6 hours on my skin. Projection is initially strong, filling a room for the first hour, before settling closer to the skin. Expect moderate sillage for the first two hours, leaving a noticeable scent trail. Re-application might be needed to maintain impact throughout the day. The synthetic edges are noticeable, particularly in the opening, but the overall composition is pleasant enough for casual wear. If you find Invictus Aqua overpriced and seek a similar vibe without breaking the bank, this is a viable option. However, those seeking a faithful recreation of the original's refined character should stick with Paco Rabanne.
