First Impressions & Dry Down
Wonder Rose So Intense throws a spotlight on a very particular type of charisma. The opening is a vibrant cocktail of pulpy mandarin and grapefruit zest, sharpened by a prickle of pink peppercorns. It's not quite the same as the original; instead of a refined citrus shimmer, it feels more like a candied orange rind dusted with generic spice-rack pepper. The heart attempts to capture the sultry sophistication of incense and tobacco, but falls slightly short. Here, the incense leans towards a smoky crayon wax smell, and the tobacco is more of a generic sweetened pipe tobacco. The saffron is present, but dialed back, lacking the nuanced spice of the inspiration. The drydown introduces oud, amber and leather. The oud offers a subtle woody base, but the leather here feels like vinyl car seats in the summer heat.
To Buy or Not to Buy?
Wearing the original is like attending a dimly lit jazz club in a bespoke suit; this is like recreating the atmosphere with a scented candle and a borrowed fedora. You gain a similar *impression*, but the depth and refinement are noticeably absent. The overall effect is a diluted, slightly synthetic rendering of a complex composition. While not unpleasant, it lacks the gravitas and distinct richness of its inspiration.
How Long Does it Last?
This fragrance lasts about 5-6 hours on my skin. Projection is moderate, reaching about an arm's length for the first two hours before settling closer. I wore it on a chilly evening walk and to an indoor concert; it fared better in the indoor setting where the nuances were more apparent.
